Foods to Avoid if You’re Trying to Loss Weight

Spending several hours a day sweating and working out to lose those unwanted calories but still having a hard time? Your diet and the foods that you eat might be the culprit.

Let’s get to know some common foods that are possibly messing up your weight loss progress without your knowledge.

Soft drinks

Time to ditch your soda cans. Your favourite refreshment is also the biggest contributor to those kilos your trying to get rid of. Liquid calories are extremely easy to consume in excess. Cut them out entirely if possible.

Sugar-free products

Artificially sweetened products are low in calories, yes. But they are not doing you any favours because artificial sweeteners can cause more cravings for sweets. It’s better to just totally ignore sweet foods if you really want to lose weight and get that perfect abs!

Alcohol

Did you know that alcohol contains 7 calories in a gram? But worse still is that all those calories are “empty calories” which means there’s no nutritional value in them. It may be fun enjoy the weekend chillin’ with your favorite beer, but do remember the consequences of empty liquid calories.

White Bread

A single piece of white bread is made up of highly-processed, simple carbohydrates which cause spikes in blood sugar. In this process, when your blood sugar drops again, you will find yourself craving more food sooner than you should. If you’re into bread, brown bread should be your go-to snack. If possible, ditch bread altogether in favor of non-starchy veggies.

Fruit Juice

Just like soft drinks, fruit juice isn’t good for you if you’re trying to lose weight. Aside from that, they contain no fibers and they are loaded with sugars. Better eat the whole fruit itself.

Salads

Believed you will lose weight if your only indulging yourself with those leafy green salads all throughout the day? Sorry to break it to you but that’s a futile attempt. If you’re not including something more filling to your salad like chicken or steak, you’ll find yourself craving for food in no time. Plus, most salad dressings in the store are packed with sugars. Opt for a simple, low-calorie mix of olive oil and vinegar instead of high-calorie dressing.

High-Fiber Snack Bars

Most people trying to lose weight munch on snack bars to avoid eating meals thinking it’s the best way to get rid of those kilos. Even if these snack bars contain fiber, the intake is not consistent. So what we’re trying to say here is that consuming a whole snack bar at a time provides a huge dose of fiber while we only need small does all throughout the day to avoid being hungry. Check the ingredients list also before you just assume your snack bar is a healthy alternative to a proper meal.

Flavoured Water

No to soft drinks, no to fruit juice. So flavoured water might be your last resort for a tasty but healthier alternative. But keep in mind that sugar is equal to calories. So even flavoured water is a no-no sometimes. Stick to your plain water, or unsweetened sparkling water. That’s best for you.

Refined Carbs

Refined carbohydrates are usually sugar, or grains that have been stripped of their fibrous, nutritious parts (includes white bread and pasta).

Studies show that refined carbs can spike blood sugar rapidly, leading to hunger, cravings and increased food intake a few hours later. Eating refined carbs is strongly linked to obesity so if you’re going to eat carbs, be sure to eat them with their natural fiber.

With all those foods to avoid, it might seem like losing weight had just become more difficult. But with discipline, your success is within reach.
